36. From the top of the North Loop, looking north across the channel. Note the iron bridge on the north shore.

38. The trees with the rusty red leaves are Black Alders. The tiny cones of these trees attract winter finches (west side of the north loop).

39. Cones taken from the Black Alders along the North Loop. Pine Siskens, Purple Finch and 8 Common Redpolls have been found feeding on the cones here

40. The west side of the North Loop, looking south as this road returns you to the Coffer Dam Road.

 

 

                         Nature Center Complex

41. The Harry Feldman Nature Center.

42. The Bird Sanctuary Lake, looking west from the Nature Center Observation Deck. Agitators keep waters open at this L-shaped island.

44. Lilly Lodge is north of the Nature Center.

46. This trail leads south from the Nature Center along a ridge, overlooking the Bird Sanctuary Lake (right side of picture).

47. The South Overlook gives a northwest view of the Bird Sanctuary Lake.

49. Warbler Alley is just east of the South Overlook. This is looking north, from the south end of Warbler Alley.

50. Warblers take refuge in the vine draped trees of Warbler Alley.

 

 

51. Dense thickets, vines and large trees attract migrants in Warbler Alley.

52. This trail leads north, up the west side of Lilly Lake.

53. The foot bridge at the north end of Lilly Lake. Walk east across this bridge to Warbler Valley.

54. This is Warbler Valley, directly north of Lilly Lake.

55. The woodland edge of Warbler Valley. A tiny creek is at the base of this woodland edge.

 

 

56. The tiny creek in Warbler Valley. Insect hatches and the sound of rushing water attracts migrating songbirds. Look for Winter Wren here.

57. Warbler Valley will dead end at a T-section at the north end. This small pond is north of this T-section.

 

                               Eagle Creek Marina

                                  Eagle Creek Dam

61. This is Rick's Cafe - Boatyard, which is northeast of the dam. Use the north end of Rick's Cafe parking lot to view the reservoir and dam.

64. The Ice Skating Pond and Warming Hut on Reed Road. The Sunday morning bird hike meets here for refreshments after the hike.

                     Ice Skating Pond-Reed Road

66. This road is just south of the Warming Hut, leading east. The Ice Skating Pond is left (north) of this road. 2 cattail marshes are right (south).

            Grasslands on Parkway East Drive

75. The small pond on Parkway East Drive. Grasslands are east and northeast of this pond.

76. The truck trail leading to the Parkway East Drive grasslands.

77. The 3 grasslands at Parkway East Drive are separated by 2 tree lines. This is the south grassland, east of the pond.

78. The truck trail leading east, splitting the south grassland from the central (middle) grassland area.

79. The Central (middle) grassland area on Parkway East Drive.

 

 

80. The north grassland section at Parkway East Drive. It is more heavily brushed than the other 2 grassland areas.
